Clinical practicums are essential for students to learn how to care for patients safely, ethically and knowledgeably. Preceptors are central to ensuring this learning happens, as well as evaluating whether the student meets the required level of practical and ethical competence.

Effective preceptors are vital in creating an environment where student learning can happen. As one student described "...This final practicum is a truly amazing experience.  To be able to be one on one with the preceptor, who is so knowledgeable in their area.  Years and years of experience and someone who can be there to guide you through every single step of the practicum...is amazing!"

The learning environment directly impacts on how the students sees or imagines her/himself as a nurse.

Following is a collection of thoughts and comments offerred by students at the end of their final practicum. We offer these insights as a way to better understand this experience through the eyes of the student.
