About CPEP

     What is CPEP?

The Centralized Preceptor Education Project  (CPEP) is a collaborative dedicated to promoting and supporting nursing preceptorship in Southern Alberta. Research was conducted in the form of descriptive surveys and qualitative focus groups. The analysis brought forward understandings of discovering, learning, and engaging. These three topics are core to the preceptor education curriculum.

     Our Philosophy

CPEP serves to enhance clinical capacity by engendering community in the inter-professional practice of preceptors. CPEP offers preceptors an interactive, inquiry-based approach to teaching students, which is open, evolving, dynamic, flexible, and accessible. The relational element of teaching and learning is core to CPEP, providing an environment of collegiality and mutual respect between institutions, specialty organizations, and regulating bodies. Professional standards and codes of ethics are inherent to CPEP endeavors.

     Our Goals

  • To recruit and retain preceptors in Southern Alberta
  • To create an educational program that works by acknowledging, supporting, and extending the role of the preceptor
  • To utilize the expertise of preceptors as a support panel for "preceptors-in-action"
  • To facilitate a community whereby preceptors may discover, learn and engage within CPEP
  • To initiate communication amongst preceptors, and members of specialty nurse organizations, provincial regulating organizations, and faculty via CPEP
  • To legitimize the preceptor role and the preceptor's scope of practice
